The South Haven Boating Foundation (SHBF) is a 501 C 3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to supporting junior and adult sailing. The foundation awards scholarships each year so that local children who live in the South Haven school district can learn to sail. Since the foundation’s inception in the early 90’s junior sailing has been its primary focus.
SHBF also owns the sailboats used in Junior and Adult sailing and makes them available for the South Haven Yacht Club to utilize via a formal use agreement. This allows generous donors to make tax deductible contributions to the Foundation, that can be leveraged to buy boats and equipment. In 2018 an anonymous donor provided funds for the Foundation to buy a 24’ cargo trailer and convert it into a mobile classroom and technology center which greatly improved operations for junior sailing.
Junior Sailing & Adult Lessons Cancelled for 2020
It’s a very difficult decision to make but one that after recognizing the program is not an essential service and can not be accomplished with adequate social distancing using shared boats, equipment and facilities needed to be made.
Working off the risk management decisions by colleges and university summer camp programs as well as other programs we have determined this is the best decision for our program at this time.
Our program will be back in 2021 with our 3-J24’s, 5 sunfish and fleet of Optis, RS Quest and Lasers.
We hope you are all well and this virus passes without impact to you and your families.
Stay safe and look forward to seeing you on the water soon.
